Image taken in Caerphilly Castle, by a Cardiff Wedding Photographer during the speeches and toasts.
Unlike many South Wales Wedding Photographers, we don't always use flash, but during certain times of the day we use it to supplement natural light where there just simply isn't enough, or the quality of the light isn't so good.
While we are on the subject, we try to do speeches a little differently. Normal convention will state that the speeches are to be done from behind the top table. 99% of photographers will adhere to this 'normal' behaviour. However, we believe that we are better than just 'normal' as we aim to not follow the rules (as unofficial and arbitrary as they are) but to simply create images full of gesture and emotion.
We bring the toasting individual out from the top table (shock horror!) and put them in front of the people they are actually toasting. This creates 2 things: 1) eye contact; 2) action and reaction between them and the couple. As you can see, he is looking straight at the couple which would not have been possible had they been sat not to his side - cue wrenched necks and awkward facial expressions.
If you want wedding photography that is better than 'ordinary' or 'normal', we would very much like to hear from you.
This particular event will always bring back fond memories, as the couple were amazingly brilliant and wonderful to work with. This also wasn't just the coming together of two people, this was the coming together of two nations - Wales and The United States. Many of the guests were American, and I just loved their infectious good nature, enthusiasm and general positivity that I often envy and wish that our nation had.
